Problem Overview
Current return bins get dirty easily and fill up fast. Containers are left outside the bin or shoved inside and broken. Leaving a dirty and troublesome return bin for employees to empty out. We also found that students are struggling with the current Grubhub ordering and ReusePass system a lot. They can't find the ReusePass website without purchasing it, and there is a lack of clear navigation to ReusePass.
Vision
Redesigned return bins that deter students from leaving food waste inside reusable containers. Rework the current Grubhub and ReusePass interfaces to make them more accessible.
Mission
Improve the orderliness of the return bins, which in turn will increase the longevity of the reusable containers and the efficiency with which they are cleaned. Improving experiences for the student dining services team and students.

Problem Identification
We saw over more than half of the containers needing to be emptied on site.
Boxes can't stack neatly inside return bin – leads to bins filling quickly because of disorganization
Boxes sometimes come back dirty/broken/unscanable
Student Interviews
We asked a few students three questions:
What do you think happens to the containers when you return them?
“After the containers are returned, I think they are collected once the bins are full and then taken back into the Traditions building. From there, I would assume that the containers are deep cleaned, sanitized, and put back out for use.”
What do you think about there being an incentive for the returned containers without food inside?
“I think that might be beneficial; it will increase awareness of not only cleaning out the reusable containers, but also I think more people will be drawn to using the containers with the incentive of getting something as a reward.”
What do you think about a penalty for containers returned with food inside?
“I do think there should be some penalty for those who return containers with food inside. There can be some form of a three-strike program.”
